Lynda Carter
Carter was born in Phoenix, Arizona, the daughter of Juanita (nee Cordova) and Colby Carter.Her father is of English and Scots-Irish ancestry and her mother of a family that hails from Mexico and is of Mexican, Spanish, and French descent. A brother named Vincent and a sister, Pamela, are her siblings. Carter was a public TV star when she made her debut on Lew King's Talent Show at age 5. Carter was part of Just Us during high school. The group played marimba and a conga drum. They also played an acoustic guitarist and the stand-up bass that was played by another band member. Lynda began singing at a local pizza joint when she was 15. When she was 16, Lynda teamed up with two cousins in forming another group, The Relatives. Gary Burghoff, actor, was the drummer for The band. The group opened at the Sahara Hotel and Casino lounge in Las Vegas for three months and because Carter was under 21 she must have entered through the kitchen.Carter was a student at Arizona State University. She was named "Most gifted" and decided to go into the world of music. Carter auditioned for The Garfin Gathering in 1970. She went on the road together with Howard (Speedy), Garfin. Their first show with each other was held at the Holiday Inn Chinatown, a San Francisco hotel so new that it did not have a sidewalk entryway. Hotel staff and hotel guests had their cars parked in the underground parking garage which meant that they were performing to them. The Garfin Gathering performed shows throughout the Nevada "Silver Circuit" which included in a number casinos in Nevada. Carter quit the Garfin Gathering for acting, and she returned home to Arizona in 1972.
